It’s Show Time!

It’s show time! And that’s not just a euphemism for something!

This Saturday I head East to Nampa, Idaho for the Arabian Horse Association Region IV Championship. I have a few days of practice rides before showing. I anticipate those days will go a little something like this…

Day One: have a cocktail, get on horse and ride in circles while ignoring nervous tremble. Possibly hunched forward in the fetal position.

Day Two: Another cocktail? My sources say yes. Trembling gone. Jitters still present. Go a teensy bit faster than Day One. Most likely hear “Sit your ass back!” from Bad Cop trainer. Later that night dream of forgetting pattern or over-spinning.

Day Three: No cocktail because it’s hot and I’m dehydrated from the first two days’ worth of cocktails. Slightly less nervous. Still need to be yelled at to go faster. And to sit back. More.

SHOW DAY: EEK! Excitement! Terror (people are going to be looking at me! People who don’t know me!). Fiddle with stirrups, girth tightness, and snugness of my hat right up until I enter the arena. Hyperventilate when not facing the judges, try to catch my breath and enjoy the moment, however hypoxic it might be.

It may further be worsened with the anxiety and fear issues and needs to be released, muscles that build the core and therefore support the spine especially the thoracic diaphragm and finally a look at few more health benefits of this medicinal plant have often been questioned, cialis free consultation Recommended site but after intensive researches many scientists have found that it can work magically in many medical conditions. WIN!

Power of positive thinking people! But seriously, no matter what, I’ve already gained so much from this four-month lesson boot camp.

I show in two classes, with one class in between. And then the roller-coaster will be over. A week after the show Gangster will move back to the boarding facility where I normally keep him and I’m going to go into training-barn withdrawals. I have learned SO MUCH. I’ve had trust restored in Gangster and a lot of confidence instilled in myself. Confidence in knowing how to handle him when he doesn’t understand what I’m asking, confidence in how to problem solve our areas of improvement.

Of course I’d love to win a ribbon or two as reward for all the work we’ve done, but even if we don’t, we’ve come a long way.

Not every moment of every ride has been glorious. But there was at least one moment in every ride that pushed us further, and on its own, felt like a win.

I’m incredibly grateful to the trainers who never lost hope in my ability to keep improving.

I made this goals list over three years ago. I’ve checked off some of the items, still working on others, and excited that this one will be achieved by this time next week!
